Sunday Sailing

Published by Julia Stainton at 6:52 am under Card Designs, Copics, Cornish Heritage Farms

I love being out on the water….the whole family does. And while we don’t own a sailboat…the image of one always catches my eye. When I was a child, every few years we make the trip to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. This image reminds me a little of Peggy’s Cove. We took our family a few years back. It’s so interesting to go back and see things with adult eyes and share them with your own children. It was just as beautiful as I had remembered it.

One of my son’s had his 14th birthday yesterday. As he loves boating, I thought this would be a good image to go with. It’s so hard to design for teenage boys. Sort of between boy and man. He liked it…or at least he said he did! :)

Sailboat Dreams

This card is all stamps are cardstock as you can see. The image is July’s Stamp of the Month at CHF and as soon as I saw it I sighed. This is going to be a classic favorite for me. The image is colored in with copic markers. Copic markers work great for a more sketchy artistic style as well as that solid cute coloring book image style you see.The trick it to hold your pen loosely and add the color more like you are painting it on rather than coloring in circles.

Quick Tip: To create a fading off skyline, simply add color from the horizon and flip the marker upwards until the color fades off.

Love your coloring and the pop of the red against the kraft card stock; I’ve a sailing buddy at work who that stamp would be perfect for - TFS!

Beautiful card, Julia. We spent summers on Martha’s Vineyard when I was a kid, so I share all the same feelings you described! Excellent coloring and great tips!

Beautiful! I just received this stamp Saturday and we went sailing Sunday, so no time to use it yet, but I am sure, with all the boaters in my DH’s family, it will be a lot of use!
