dreamer

I guess I’m a bit of a dreamer. I was always the girl with her head in the clouds and I guess in a lot of ways, I still am.

Dreams get us through every day life. They give us something to work towards. A goal. Some dreams come true and make us smile. Some dreams break our heart a little when they don’t. It all makes us stronger and makes us who we are.

The other day I was thinking of dreams and put this layout together.

First though…I have to tell you my saga. Friday was a crazy day. We woke up to no power. Spent the day huddled in the cold with no heat, no power and no water after a storm took it out. I didn’t go down to my craft room as the basement too dark to work in. One of my teenagers decided to have a nap. His room is in the basement and when he woke up, he came yelling up the stairs that the basement was flooded. My heart sank.

Because of all the rain the day before and no power going to the sump pump, my craft room flooded and then spilled into half the basement. It was a very long and distressing evening. I threw out a lot of stuff but I’m so thankful it wasn’t worse. It’s still drying out but it was so hard to see my own special place like that and my husbands hard work in  creating it  for me threatened. My craft room was one of my dreams come true. Maybe that sounds silly but it meant a lot to me.

Enter a Saturday Lily Bee deadline. The layout I had planned to create on Friday and couldn’t because of the dark had to wait until after a University tour with my daughter on Saturday. I believe in meeting my commitments. So I sat in my damp soggy craft room and managed to create this layout from my heart.

One of the things I realized this weekend is that I am living my dream.

Here.

Now.

I am blessed.

I still have a pocket full of dreams but the important ones, I cherish their fulfillment, each and every day. I love it when God gives me a little reality check. I just wish I didn’t have to learn the hard way.

So finally! Here’s my layout. It may be my favorite to date because of what it means to me. It’s also my first layout created with my new Picket Fence line for Lily Bee Design. Picket Fence is the Monday Focus on the Lily Bee blog. If you’re looking for more Picket Fence inspiration…check it out here.

I have good news! Picket Fence along with the other fabulous Lily Bee Design releases are now shipping to stores! Keep an eye out for them!

This flower is created with the Tattered Florals die and the Porch Swing and Fresh Air papers. I wanted a red brad center and didn’t have one. I found a neutral Zva brad in my stash and colored it red with a Copic Marker.

I encourage you to write down your dreams. Those that have come true and those you wish for. For the most part, I’m a pretty private person and the little pocket makes a perfect place to tuck those dreams inside.

Keep dreaming…

Silk Ribbon Inspiration

Looking for another ribbon project? I have another to share with you today and I think you’re going to love it. It’s TOTALLY different in style for yesterday’s design. I’m hoping this one will inspire you to do a little stitching!

So what do you think?

Looks like a bit of spring to me! It’s Copic-colored silk ribbon and I’ve created a tutorial on how to do it. Check out  Silk Ribbon Meets Paper Crafting in the CLASSroom today.

Have an inspirational day!

Banner Bliss

It’s no secret that I love banners.

I also love creating for my home.

Yesterday I created this fun banner to add a touch of spring to my home.

It’s now hanging in our eating area and it’s making me smile.

Using the Picket Fence line and all my favorite goodies, this banner is so “me”.

Want to learn how to make one? Stop by the Lily Bee blog for the tutorial and step outs.

Before you go…here’s a newsflash! Lily Bee Design is holding a design team call. It’s a seriously fabulous team to be on. Love it! Here’s the details. I know you’re going to want to take a peek. Good luck!!!

Have a blissful day!

mixing crafts

Some crafters are new to crafting when they start to paper craft but for most of us, well…

We’ve been crafting one thing or other as far back as we can remember.

That’s me. Knitting, quilting, sewing, crochet, smocking, stenciling, cross-stitch,  tole painting…even making soap has made it into my repertoire at some point. I know, I know! That one didn’t last too long. I’m sure I’ve missed a few too.

It’s fun to blast back to your past skills and add different crafting techniques to paper craft projects.

Crochet flowers are a fun trend and an interesting addition to this project. I made up my own easy pattern for these flowers. If you want to make them smaller and less bulky, just use finer cotton and a smaller crochet hook.

Julia’s Crochet Flowers

  2. Chain 1
  3. In the circle, single crochet 10 times

  6. Slip crochet in next single crochet.
  7. Repeat step 5 and 6 four more times.
  8. Slip crochet through beginning and tie off.

What We Love

“We are fashioned by what we love.”

It’s so true isn’t it?

The above quote is by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, but it’s been said over and over throughout the years.

The original author? Ever read Luke 12:34?

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Sounds like the same concept to me.

Just a little something to think about. What do you love and what does that say about you?

I know that I’m convicted with that little reality check.

Speaking of love, Valentine’s Day is coming up. I thought it would be fun to create a little wall-hanging to decorate. I’m thinking I may just hang it in my craft room the rest of the year. Some things bear thinking about.

You can find the rest of my Love Spoken Here wall-hanging in the CLASSroom. I have lots of step out and close-ups to share so stop by and check it out.

Thanks for stopping by!

Have a LOVE-ly weekend,

All Good Things…

Life has many changes…but it begins and ends with family.

I’ve always loved that quote and so it seemed very fitting to end the year on my blog with a family project. They are my treasure.

This 6×6 inch family mini album is just the place to keep some of my treasured photos. I’m pretty thrilled with how it came out. The die cut edges were so much fun to do. If you’re looking for details, you can find them today in the CLASSroom. I hope you’ll join me! Ellen has some amazing giveaways for the 12 days of Christmas so be sure to check that out there as well. Speaking of giveaways…you have until midnight tonight to comment on the previous post for a chance to win that fun Hero Arts stamp set. Good luck!

2010 was a wonderful year for which I am most thankful. All good things must come to an end though but I’m looking forward 2011 to see what it brings. Thank you again for all the lovely comments and support this past year. I truly appreciate each and every one of you.

Wishing you a very happy new year and a year of blessing to come…

a little joy tag and a whole lot of snow

Has anyone been following the 12 Tags of Christmas? Have you been to the CLASSroom to check out the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Touch? They are so fun and festive and a great way to try out new techniques.

This little JOY Tag is packed full of inky techniques and yesterday I had a wonderful time putting my own feminine spin on things. I hope you’ll join me today in the CLASSroom for the step outs. Also, don’t forget to stop by the CLASSroom each day and leave a comment. Ellen has some wonderful goodies to give away.

My last post was titled for the birds. Little did I know how apt that would be. We’ve been having record amounts of snow here. School is now closed for the third day straight.

And. it. is. STILL. Snowing.

Unbelievable!

One thing the snow has brought us though is many many birds to our new feeder. It’s on the porch so some of the birds were a bit shy but no longer are. We now have two pair of cardinals and they are so gorgeous.

The kids are enjoying the snow immensely. I’ve been trying to get some pictures but we have wide open spaces here, all you see is white and it’s hard to see in a photo exactly how much snow we have. We did have record amounts for one 24 hour period. Yesterday the total was up to 80 cm and it’s still snowing so for those of you who don’t do metric, I’m thinking it’s been at least a yard since Sunday.

I’m pretty excited. It looks like we’re going to have a very white Christmas.
