lost & found

This time of year, I like to do a lot of spring cleaning. Things seem to pile up over the winter and I’ve been spending days sorting, purging and generally doing a great “clean sweep”. I’ve found a lot of treasures and misplaced items and that always makes it so worth it.

One project I found was a card I had never shared here with you. It was from a Lily Bee card class I taught last year using my Victoria Park paper line.

This is a rare card for me…one that’s made with 99.9% paper and ink. Just a couple little metal staples on it that can be left off if they are not your thing.

I’m still a huge fan of the 3D Flower Die. It’s my favourite Sizzix die and I can’t imagine what they would have to come up with to replace it in my affections. This die makes such beautiful and easy rolled roses. {love}

Quick Tip: To make the leaves, punch a circle from patterned paper or cardstock. Punch that circle again to make a curved leaf shape. You can get two leaves from one punched circle.

2012…the recap

2012 was a busy year. An eventful year. It brought some of the best of times and many perplexing ones.Thinking back to sitting at my desk one year ago, I never could have predicted the twists and turns this year has brought. It brought creativity and well, a rather long dry spell. It brought great joy and also tears. It brought the first overseas trip I’ve ever had with my hubby. A time I’ll always treasure.  2012 brought opportunities. A few of them I am thrilled to have taken. A few I’ve turned down. A year ago I wouldn’t have done that but it was the right thing to do. No is a hard word to say to a dream.

I’m still learning to find balance. I’ve learned a lot in 2012,  about myself and life. I’m still learning to let go.

Placing my life and the lives of my loved ones in the hands of God each day is something I need to continually remember to do. I am not in control. It’s a good thing too as I’d just mess it up. A close friend told me that there is a quote something like this….”a mother is only as happy as her saddest child.” So true! I always want to fix things. I think perhaps that has been the biggest struggle of 2012. I’m looking forward to moving forward.

2013 is a shaping up to be an exciting year. My oldest son is getting married mid-February. Just a few more weeks! (Can I really be that old?!) Hubby and I are also grabbing another week together early in the year. I’m counting down to it. Bless my dear mother-in-law for helping make this happen. The past couple days I’ve been spending sorting and cleaning in my craft room. I’m feeling much more positive and excited about getting back in there for 2013.

I thought I’d share a few of my favorites from 2012 again with you this year. Last year I highlighted my top 10 non-published designs and I’m doing it again. If for some reason you want to look at 2011, here’s the link to that post.

These designs are in no particular order but I did have a lot of fun creating this first one for a feature on the CASE Study Challenge Blog. It’s a card design with a little bit of this and a little bit of that. My favourite way to create.

I love creating layouts of my daughter and this one is extra special as it uses my Victoria Park line that was released early 2012.

This card features a little mini canvas that is stamped and painted. I loved creating my own little piece of art and shared this design in the CLASSroom.

This card is special as I created it for Shannon, my daughter-in-law to be as an engagement card.

I haven’t created many layouts in the second half of the year. I’m thinking I’m going to have to remedy that in 2013 as I really miss it. This design came from a Lily Bee release at CHA Winter 2012. The folded corners on the squares was an idea I had that I was pretty happy with how it turned out.

Back to another CLASSroom project, this dotty background had me giddy with how it turned out.

Dots, dots and more dots. I just can’t seem to get enough!

Perhaps my favourite creative part of 2012 was joining the Maya Road Design Team. I’m a Roadie! A year later I’m still pinching myself and just can’t get enough of MR product. I’ve been busy creating a lot of mini albums and this is one I really love. It’s chock-full of yummy details.

Lastly, one thing of the things I did learn to do this year was to create videos. I shared a couple on my blog and created a couple for Maya Road. This window card video can be found here. I have a few ideas in mind for videos next year and can’t wait to get started.

I’m looking forward to 2013. When I look back and see God’s hand on my life over the past year, I know He’s led me through and is slowly shaping me into the woman I am supposed to be. I’m hoping for a peaceful and creative year and pray for a year of joy and blessing.

Have you taken some time to stop and reflect on the past year? Do you have some favourite projects? Lessons learned? Goals for 2013? I’d love to hear if you’d like to share!

Wishing you many blessings for the coming year!

Thank You … a simple card

Just a simple card to share with you today. I had some rolled roses on my desk that just needed to be made into a card. I love how pretty cardstock and patterned paper look made into a rolled rose.

Quick Tip: Die cut and roll a lot of little roses at once. It’s always great to have a few of these on hand to add as a quick embellishment.

Looking Back

With a new computer comes all the joys of reinstalling all your software. More of a hassle than I joy I should say. I did however, have some fun backing up and reloading some older digital photos. Looking back through them made me nostalgic and more than a little shocked at how quickly time is passing by.

Over the weekend we had some exciting news. My son proposed to his girlfriend in a hot air balloon Saturday night. We are so happy for them and looking forward to their big day. But I have to ask… How can I be old enough to be a mother-in-law?!

Here’s a photo of their hands that I snapped on Saturday night…

Flashback now seven years to the summer my youngest was born. It was a busy crazy summer and I was so thankful for my daughter’s help with her little brothers. Her love for them hasn’t changed and she has the biggest heart. Today’s layout is about that. She doesn’t care for the photos but I think she was so cute in that red surfboard tshirt and her mirrored sunglasses. So glad I found the photos.

Today’s layout was created for the Lily Bee Blog sketch challenge. It’s a wonderful sketch by Cindy Liebel and you can join us for more details here.

Quick Tip: It’s never too late to go back and scrapbook those older memories.

Use it Up

It’s that time of year when I’m anxiously awaiting all the new Summer CHA releases to hit the shelves. How about you? I have a little wish list going and I can’t wait. New product always seems to inspire.

In the meantime, I’ve decided to use up some of my scraps. For today’s cards I’m using up one my Victoria Park 6×6 paper pads.

My first card I’ve pieced together into a stitched grid after punching out my scraps with a bracket square shape. Sponging all the edges with the same ink helps tie the design together.

Quick Tip: Punches are a fabulous way to use up scraps. If you have a punch that you love to use, punch out a shape to store for later use.

My second card punches out the cardstock instead of the patterned paper. The scraps of paper are then adhered behind each negative shape for a different look. Little tabs created from 1/2″ strips of folded paper make a fun and easy border on the right of the design. To finish it off, I’ve used the wonderful Lily Bee ABC stickers to create a curved sentiment and then accented it with some swirly machine stitching.

Today I’m on the Lily Bee blog sharing these designs for Lily Bee’s Cards on Wednesday post. if you like cards, stop by their blog each Wednesday for some more inspiration.

Resist and Mist

Hello!

I’m back from the Canadian long weekend and some much needed R & R. It’s been a crazy summer. No vacation in sight as of yet but I’ll take what I can get.

I’m excited to get back to creating thing morning and I’ll be back tomorrow with some new designs. In the meantime, here’s a project that I finally get to share with you.

Stamping and resist techniques are among my favorite things to do. I love the “magic” of the embossed image appearing and adding in all that beautiful color.

Recently I created another video tutorial for Maya Road featuring their beautiful Ornate Butterflies stamp set and their Maya Mists. It’s a beautiful technique and easy to do. Here’s the link.

If you love that butterfly stamp set, Maya Road is also giving away one of these great sets. Check out their post on Facebook for the giveaway for a change to win.

Happiness

Happiness is…

Well, you finish it for yourself. Everyone has different things that make them happy. For me, it’s very much tied up with a thankful state of mind. When I’m grateful for my blessings and the gift of life, that’s when I’m the happiest.

Today’s design wishes you happiness…

This card is a fun mix of some of my favorite things. It actually mixes together four different Lily Bee lines for a unique look. Don’t be afraid to mix and match your scraps. As long as you repeat some of the element to tie it together and the paper hues and scales work together, it’s a great way to use them up.

Quick Tip: Make a sentiment out of an embellishment by adding stickers to spell out the rest of   the phrase. Here I started with the happiness banner pennant and made it into a full sentiment.

Today on the Lily Bee blog, we have a fun new challenge for you. Every Tuesday is the Designer’s Choice Challenge and this week it’s a color challenge. I’m absolutely loving this color challenge with its stunning palette of soft hues. Perfect for dreamy cards and layouts. I hope you’ll pop by for some more creative inspiration and also play along.
