the hexagon trend

One of my favorite trends of this past year has to be the hexagon. It’s a fun but simple shape and it pieces together so well. Hexagons remind me of a quilt that my grandmother made and I love how they are timeless and trendy at the same time.

One of the difficulties with hexagons is that they aren’t as simple a shape to cut as a square, rectangle or even a circle. Maya Road has this great new chipboard set out that makes playing with hexagons super easy. I love how there are two sizes of hexagons and there are some fun hexagon outlines to play with. For today’s card I’ve covered my chipboard hexagons with patterned paper or misted them for an easy finish. By using the hexagons over and over it ties all the fun paper prints together for a cohesive look.

You can see in the closeup how great the Maya Mist is for spraying on chipboard. The shimmer and coverage is amazing! If you’re looking for a fun stamp set, I’ve used the BFF stamp from the Maya Road TXT Me stamp set. I love using this stamp set for anyone who has their cellphone permanently in hand.

Happy Friday!

and the winner is…

It’s time to take a big deep breath this morning and step off the whirlwind I’ve been in for the past few weeks. Peace and quiet are reigning this morning as my 3 youngest started school again today. Last week’s move was a success and we managed to squeeze lots of end of summer fun into the long weekend. Yesterday on the way home from the lake I saw a sign that said, Summer should get a speeding ticket. I totally agree!

I’m very sorry it’s taken so long to get back to the computer and this blog but this year I’m making a serious effort to prioritize my family ahead of design work. I hope you understand. And so finally, I’m getting back to the details and have a winner from the Card Design Handbook Blog Hop. Congrats goes to comment number 59….
