When Skies are Grey

Lots of grey days around here lately. A sweet spring card may just be the answer to brighten things up a little.

I’ve combined a few of my favorite things to create this design and also did a little experimenting with a trying out a new technique I dreamed up.

Today I’m sharing it along with this card and step outs, at the CLASSroom. I hope you’ll join me!

Have a wonderful weekend!

a touch of spring

Spring just can’t come soon enough to suit me. Not quite sure why as it really hasn’t been a tough winter here and I did have that lovely trip away. Be that as it may, I’m totally longing for flowers, fresh air, pretty colors and some lovely birds and butterflies.

My temporary solution was to do a little creating so that I can enjoy a little touch of spring, right here, right now.

Today I’m sharing this project on the Maya Road Design Team Blog. You’ll find more photos and some how to’s so I hope you’ll stop by and say hello.

Happy Friday!

sweet baby mini canvas

Seriously.

Where DOES the time go? I’m always shocked at how quickly it passes.

Take today’s project for instance. I created it a year ago and still haven’t shared it. What’s up with that?!

So finally….here it is…

I love altering little canvases and I decided to do a little experimenting on this one. In my stash I had this great white crochet doily and I decided to experiment with covering the canvas with it.

The canvas is pre-primed so I didn’t need to worry about it but I wanted the doily stiff and able to take color. Gesso to the rescue. Gesso is a primer that is used on difficult surfaces for painting, mixed media and altered art projects.  I secured the doily at the back of the canvas and then painted my gesso on top of the doily. This also helps adhere it to the canvas. You want to saturate it well and then allow it to dry naturally. This will take a while as the doily needs quite a saturation of Gesso.

Once it’s dry, you can add any kind of color that you want. I’ve misted mine here with Glimmer Mist. The Gesso holds the medium well.

Add in a little trinket frame that is pinned on and some ribbon and you have a really sweet baby canvas to decorate with.

Better late than never, right?
Enjoy your day!

to brighten your day

How about a card to brighten your day?

I love warm colors this time of year, just to put a bit of pop back into the dreary late winter landscape. And of course, the pink and orange color combo is one of my faves and just works perfectly with these stamps. A little funky retro look to it.

I’ve used this darling umbrella before. It’s from the Avocado Arts Wishes and Kind Thoughts stamp set, as is the sentiment and little hearts. It’s such a classic icon image and I can think of so many ways to use it.

Today it’s paired up with a little sneak peek at the next Avocado Arts stamp set, Springtime Celebration. I tell you…you are going to LOVE it! Super cute! I have a few cards made already that I can’t wait until I can share them as I just couldn’t resist working ahead.

To add shading to my umbrella, I simply when over the creases with a Desert Sand Memento Marker. It’s a dye marker but it blends right into the colored cardstock beautifully. When you apply it, it will look a little dark as the cardstock is wet but don’t worry, it will fade nicely once dry.

Being the 15th of the month, it’s the day when the ENTIRE Pit Crew posts sneak peeks so please join us for lots of great stamping inspiration…

on love and mini albums… a tutorial

Combining my love for my guy and my love for mini albums seemed to be the perfect thing to do this Valentine’s Day. It’s a sweet little album that’s 4″x4″ in size so it fits nicely in your hand and can be made in less than a couple hours. Fun!

I’ve really been enjoying working on it, filling it with photos and love quotes with lots of room still to add as the mood strikes me.

This project is created with my new Victoria Park paper line from Lily Bee Design and I’m sharing this project on the Lily Bee Blog today. There’s more photos over there so if you’re curious, take a peek.

This mini album is created with two squares of chipboard and the rest is made from patterned paper. I’ve taped a little video for you to show you how it’s put together. I hope you enjoy it.

And for those of you who wanted to hear me teaching…well, I gave it a whirl. 🙂

Have a beautiful day!

xo from the desktop

Last week I spent a very busy and productive week cleaning out my craft room. As I can’t seem to separate cleaning and crafting, I just couldn’t resist making a few cards. It’s easier to put it on a card than put it away, right?

Actually, there is something very satisfying about managing to put together something pretty from just a hodgepodge of bit and pieces that I find on my desktop. Everything on this card came from that category and it was fun to find them a home together and put them all to good use.

The card base is a little smaller than standard size as I was using up a scrap. I believe it is 3.5″ x 5″ in size. It is stamped tone on tone to add some subtle pattern but not compete with all the pretty goodies on this card.

It’s a bit of a shabby romantic look with all the lace. I had stamped the heat on the canvas tag for another project and the same with the misted flower. For some reason or other, they didn’t make the cut. Perhaps they were just waiting to be placed on this card. 😉

If you’ve never made a card from bits and pieces, why not try giving it a go? It’s the best way to clean that I know of!
XOXO…

Be Mine Valentine

Just a couple more days until Valentine’s Day and I have a surprise for you today.

It’s a Valentine card project for you with a video tutorial to go with it. Distress Stains and canvas and stamping and die cutting all in one.

Now this is my first one so please, bear with me while I learn a new skill. Seriously…my hat is off to anyone who does these well and on a regular basis. Very, very challenging and it’s a steep learning curve. I’m going to try and keep working on them as I can squeeze in the time. Maybe it will get easier? A girl can hope!
