Watercolor… or not?!

Good morning! I have a beautiful Tulip sneak peek to share with you today  paired up with another gorgeous sentiment from the Scripture Essentials I line… Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Together they make me think of spring and Easter in particular. Check out the CHF Creative Blog over the next few days for more of the new Shady Tree Studio releases. You’ll be glad you did! 😉

Back to the watercolor…. this design actually uses Copic markers. Usually when I think Copic markers I think of strong, bold colors but what if you want something softer and more faded, a watercolor look. I’ve been so excited lately to discover more and more techniques for my Copic markers making them a purchase I’m really thrilled to have invested in. Lisa Silver created a fabulous tutorial on this technique for CHF that  you’ll want to check out. If you have Copics…odds are you already own everything you need for it!

To create this design, I first stamped my tulip and sentiment in Memento Black ink by Tsukineko. I then scribbled my markers onto a scrap of plastic and picked up the color with a waterbrush filled with Copic Blender Solution. I went over the design a few times to get the desired depth to the shadows of my image. Once finished, I stamped my Spanish Script Backgrounder over the layer to add subtle interest and tie the design together.

Quick Tip: Even for a soft look, you’ll need to use your more vibrant markers for this technique. The blender solution  really turns each ink into a light wash.

Have a wonderful day!
