Ric Rak Anyone?
Ready for another challenge?! Its Thursday and the challenge is to find Ways to Use rick rack! I love rick rack! It has such a fun look to it. You can use it like ribbon but it just seems to have a little more texture. Rick rack is perfect on layouts, vintage and retro projects as well as more streamlined projects. Don’t forget baby designs….gotta love rick rack on those too! To play along with today’s challenge, simply add rick rack to your project. It can be simple or more elaborate…just have fun! For my design, I was playing around with some jumbo rick rack and created a rick rack flower. It was super simple to make and I really tickled with how it turned out! 
My favorite rick rack is a jumbo rick rack by Creative Impressions. It comes in a variety of colors and I love its big fun look.
Rick Rack Hello
To create my flower, I simply took a length of jumbo rick rack, about 24 inches. You can trim off the excess at the end for another project. I punched out a 2″ circle and covered it with a strong adhesive. Starting at the outer edge, press the inner edge of the rick rack into the adhesive, turning as you go. Continue turning and pressing into a spiral until you reach the inside of the flower. Cut off excess. Adhere button, large brad or rhinestone in the center of your flower to hide the edge. Trim away any excess cardstock from the outside of the flower. To create my leaves, I simply cut some leaves free-hand from some patterned paper. I inked the edges and creased the center vein of the leaf with the tip of a pair of scissors…a stylus or bone folder would work better but when inspiration strikes, I usually just grab what I have on hand. 
To create my stamped panel, I simply stamped the words Unique and Original from the Big Inspiration stamp set in Antique Linen Distress ink over the cardstock. Overtop I stamped a butterfly and sentiment from the Garden Friends set in Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
Quick Tip: Distress Inks aren’t just for distressing! I love using them to stamp just about anything. The one thing I don’t suggest using them on is highly detailed images such as Thomas Kinkade stamps.
