Shabby Birthday

I’m not sure if this design qualifies as shabby…it’s a bit of a mixture of fun elements and pretty ones. It is something I’m doing more and more…exploring different styles and mixtures and just letting go and having some fun. After all…that is what this is all about right? Creating and enjoying it.

I’m needing a few birthday cards over the next few weeks so I thought I’d better get to work. A good jumping off point for me is always a mix of new goodies, favorite stamps and a sketch challenge. This layout design is from this week’s CPS sketch. When I saw it I originally thought of a clean modern approach but I think this seems to work as well. My new goodies are the Fleuriste paper from Cosmo Cricket. The main design is stamped right onto the distressed vanilla patterned paper and overstamped with a background stamp. My other new goodies are from Creative Impressions…the darling little dragonfly brad, my favorite Antique Copper Rounds and the tan check ribbon.

Quick Tip: To get a semi-stamped look without stamping all areas of the background stamp…simply lay your paper on top of the backgrounder and “finger-walk” the tips of your fingers randomly over the back surface. I always love this look.

As I mentioned above, I mixed up some of my favorite stamps for this design…Silhouette Blooms 1, Pretty Birds and Spanish Script Backgrounder, all from Cornish Heritage Farms. I know you’ve seen them here lots before but I hope you’ll forgive me for using them yet again. :) A little distressing and stitching give it added depth and add to the shabby look. Sentiment is from the Tag You’re It stamp set. I just love the Kim Hughes Line. Just so you know…CHF is releasing another two fabulous Kim Hughes sets tomorrow. I know you’re going to love them. The Easter holiday has delayed Canada Post even longer than usually this time…sigh. I’m still stalking the mail box for mine. If you’d like sneak peeks…check out the CHF design team blogs (links in my sidebar). The designs will be in the CHF gallery tomorrow as well. :) Also check back tomorrow for the Thursday Ways to Use it challenge.

Until tomorrow…

Very elegant!! I emailed you back regarding the stamp sets….but never heard back from you, so I’m wondering if maybe my email is floating around in space. I opted not to get the wheel after all. Let me know price with shipping for the oh so lovely and how you would like me to pay you. Best - Cassie
