Belle Papier {pretty paper}

The CHF designers thought it would be fun to have a weekly blog challenge. We’re kicking it off this Monday with the theme of flocking. I love flocking a lot of the time forget to use it so this was a perfect challenge to have a little fun. Flocking is also the CHF product spotlight until Thursday night and if you missed Kristine’s flocking tutorial…you may want to check that out as well. For my design I used flocking in two ways…to flock a stamped image and to cover chipboard with it. The fun, fuzzy look of flocking is really hot right now in crafting as well as fashion.

Flocked Silhouette Thoughts

For this design I pulled out one of my favorite stamp sets, Silhouette Blooms. I stamped the large branch of blooms repeatedly in Worn Lipstick ink and then a smaller blossom in Pink Sherbert. To flock and image over top, I simply stamped it using my Essential Glue Pad, Sprinkled it with black flocking and then firmly pressed it into the glue.

Quick Tip: When using flocking…press well into your adhesive and leave to dry before removing excess.

To create my bird, I used a Scenic Paper Route chipboard bird that I picked up at the store last week. I covered it with black flocking in the same manner and allowed to dry. I love how it coordinates with the darling little bird on the patterned paper by the same company. To finish off my design, I added some black flourishes using the Beautiful stamp set from the Rummage Bin line, also from Cornish Heritage Farms.

I don’t have a {C’est Bon} entry for you today…I’m hoping to get back on track with those posts next week. I DID find some time on Friday to create this fun little birthday design. My 5yo was attending a party and needed a fun card. I realized I hadn’t used this darling Out of this World stamp set I bought from Lizzie Anne Designs a few months ago. It was so fun and easy to use with SO many options for use. I know you’re going to be seeing it again soon here.

Out of This World Birthday

This design uses a simple layout mixed with some new Fancy Pants paper I picked up at my local scrapbook store the other day. Don’t you just love using new product?! To create my scene, I simply stamped the images in Pitch Black Adirondack ink and then colored in with my Copic markers. I decided to keep embellishments to a minimum for a boy card and added a silver Making Memories star and a little Creative Impressions paper clip.

Yesterday I took a short time out to finally create a card. yay! It’s been a super-long week here! I’ve gotten a lot done and still so much to do but…I really needed a stamping break! The Limited Supply Challenge was to use products that you were wondering why you purchased them in the first place! Hmmmmm….I think Jen has been listening in all week as I sorted and purged. If I had a dollar for each time I have said that this week I’d be a happy girl! The second part of the challenge was to mix it up with a floral design. I love flowers so I couldn’t resist and went to to work.

Sprinkle Joy

While cleaning up, I found this beautiful stamp set that I’ve never used. Love the flower prints! It reminds me a lot of the old SU Petal Prints set. It was so simple to ink up with markers and create a bouquet. I love this style of stamping! So pretty but quick and easy too! This stamp set is a purple rubber set from See D’s. Hope I have that right. I just did a little Google research for you. See D’s are from Sugar Loaf which has merged with Inque Boutique. Stephanie Barnard is the designer and it see as though this set is no longer being made.

Now for the what was I thinking elements! I actually used four and now that I’ve used them, well, they aren’t so bad. lol. The brown textured paper that I have no idea where it came from, the dollar store metal photo corner, the brad alphabet letters (I do like these but I’m having the dickens of a time trying to keep them all square! I think I’ve adjusted them 20 times…NO exageration) and the fuzzy fibre. Why on earth did I think I needed 6 packages of this stuff? I may have used it twice!

I had someone suggest the other day that I post reruns on my blog while I’m busy with my huge to-do list and the renovation. Well, I’m probably not going to do that but I did remember that I haven’t posted any of my Cards publication designs. I thought I’d share this one with you today. This design is from the February 2008 Cards magazine…

Frosted Hearts

I created this design with my hubby in mind. I just love this cool technique. I originally tried it out on a card design the last month I was on the SCS Dirty Dozen Design Team. The acrylic panel is from One Heart One Mind and I lightly sanded it with fine grit sandpaper. After sanding to achieve a frosted appearance…I stamped my hearts onto the acrylic surface with Versamark ink and then embossed with clear embossing powder. The embossing fills in the fine sanding and gives you a beautiful clear look. The patterened paper used to create this design is the beautiful Romantica Line from Prima Marketing. A simple layout and some stitching finish it off.

With Spring showers in the air, I thought it would be fun to have a misting or spray challenge. Yesterday I was out to the post office for the second day in a row and it was a downright balmy 4°C…that’s 40°F. Actually, it DID feel balmy and just wonderful. Kind of tells you what our winter has been like if that feels super warm, doesn’t it?!

For today’s challenge…almost anything goes…you just need to find ways to spray it. Be it Glimmer Mist, hairspray and pearl ex, airbrush system, spritzer, water misting…just have some fun and create your own “showers” of spray. Check out the challenge here at WT159

I’m All Shook Up

Yes…Elvis is back in da house with a new release. I had so much fun playing with the fun elements of this design. I wanted to go with a funky look using the new Elvis’ Guitar release from Cornish Heritage Farms. To create this design, I simply stamped my guitar and sentiment onto some white cardstock with Black Palette Hybrid ink. After stamping, I sprayed the image panels with my Glimmer Mist for a shimmery, mottled look. I had a difficult time capturing in the photograph but I love the cool look.

To create the background panel, I ran some Basic Grey black/charcoal distressed patterned paper through my Cuttlebug with the new Allegro embossing folder and then lightly sanded to expose the inner core. Some stitching adds texture.

Quick Tip: Want embellishments that project off the card but still have it fit in an envelope. Start with your original card size…decide where you want something to project out and how much. Trim the card size down. In this case I started off with a 5.25″ square card design and then trimmed off an inch to allow for the transparency.

I’ve been really enjoying the PaperCrafts Joy of Cardmaking features in each issue. This is another design I created using one of their fun sketches. Sorry…I’m not quite sure which issue this one is in but definitely one of their most recent ones. For one of the layers, I used a transparency with paint brushed on the edges and reverse side and rub-ons on the front. This adds a fun funky look and still allows the beautiful Fancy Pants designer paper to show through. To hold on the transparency I used some fun fuzzy brads from Making Memories to add a little texture. Some freestyle stitching around the edges adds to the slightly shabby look and frames the design.

Update: All my ink for sale is now sold except for my Soft Subtles Craft Spots. Thanks soooo much for the response. I’ve been frantically busy today trying to keep up. My busy week “off” is going well. I’m getting so many things done although I think I’ll be exhausted by the end of the week! 20 loads of laundry, 25 shirts ironed, three closets cleaned, spring clothes sorted, some renovation mess cleaned up, cardstock and stamps and inks priced and sorted and the list goes on…..

Well, my week “off” has been spent working from early morning until 10 at night. So many things to catch up on. All those things I’ve let slip with the extra work of the renovation in full gear. I’m still having to feed seven people each day without a kitchen. We do order in once a week but really…it is just not cost effective (or healthy for that matter) to eat fast food all the time. I’m still working hard with lots of projects and a huge to do list for the rest of the week. It does feel good to be getting things done though!
One of the things I’ve been super busy doing is going through all my stamps, paper and ink and trying to get organized. I’m still looking forward to that new stamp room but until then…I’m doing my best. My local stamp store has a garage sale twice a year and a lot of my goodies are going there. As I can’t sell opened ink pads etc. as part of their terms, I’d love to find them a good home from my blog. I’d like to turn these around quickly so I’m selling ink pads and reinkers together. I’d like to sell a minimum of four pads per order and would just accept Paypal for this sale. Your best value for shipping costs are a higher number of pads. Hi! I thought I’d share this fun little dotted card I created. This layout is from a PaperCrafts sketch layout. I thought it would be fun to try it out as it is a layout I would never think to try. Now this is another scrappy card, but bear with me…I’ll have a stamped design for you again soon.

I also just wanted you to know…I’m taking the week off. Nope…not going anywhere and it is hardly going to be relaxing, but with this renovation…I just need some time to focus on that. My goal this week is to stay off the computer as much as possible and get a lot done. My good news is the concrete in the kitchen is curing well and we’ll probably be able to start tiling the floor in another week. I’ve been three and a half weeks without a kitchen and probably another 3 to go but we are surviving. So….what does this mean…I probably won’t be able to resist popping on and sharing a design or two this week but I won’t be posting every day. Wish me luck!

Today I thought I’d share a quick Easter design with you…

Just a fun, quick little Easter design. I just love the pretty little chicks on this patterned paper. Wouldn’t they make a darling baby card as well? Unfortunately…I made this card a little while ago and I just can’t think of the name of this paper! I hate it when that happens!

Spring Chicks

Because the patterned paper on this design was soooo subtle…I had to keep the layout and other colors subtle as well. I stitched the patterned paper onto my white cardstock base to add some subtle interest and texture. Some green velvet May Arts ribbon adds softness and gives a place to “anchor” the tag and flower embellishments. The little tag is a vellum tag that has been layered with punched cardstock circles. In the center, a white Spring Basic Grey rub-on adds the sentiment…colored eggs & baby chicks & baskets. I love the little egg sentiment paired up with the chicks. Prima flower, rub-ons and May Arts ribbon from Jacksonbelle Embellishments.
