A little Spring?
I had a little fun putting this card design together. It is a little different and I took a few risks with it. A fresh color combo and some vintage/shabby touches and some quick messy watercoloring…well…I love it but I’m not sure how you all are going to like it!
DH hates it! LOL “You MADE that?!”
Soooo be honest…what do you think? I’m a big girl…I can take it.
I think last yesterday I was just tired of perfect coloring and perfect squares and perfect scallops and wanted to think outside the box. I even colored that wild rose in blue! One of my resolutions this year is to try out new things and be more creative. I hope it is one I can keep!
Shabby Hello
This design is currently out for publication…
I actually started this design while cleaning up my desk. I couldn’t throw away this darling little scrap of Hambly Screen Prints transparency. So I paired up that acid green with some turquoise and blue and had a little shabby fun. For the background…I used the Spanish Script backgrounder from Cornish Heritage Farms. I inked it up randomly…leaving the edges uninked for a interesting look. After watercoloring my Wild Rose stamp with Chocolate Chip, Certainly Celery and Cool Caribbean, I ripped out the image and crumpled up the edges.
To hold down that Hambly transparency I added some brown stitching to the left side and secured the right with some Spumoni Prima Flowers. To add a quick sentiment, I tucked in a little Hello…from the Silhouette Blooms stamp set and added some more random stitching. A few Autumn Leaves buttons decorate the top left corner to finish it off.
I also want to take this time to wish you all a safe and happy new year! If you want to kick the new year off with some new stamps and goodies…I thought I’d let you know… Cornish Heritage Farms is having a one day sale tomorrow. You might want to check it out!

I like it! It IS different than most of your cards! Very cool!
Very cool and yes we need a little spring in the midwest, way too much snow and it’s snowing again!! Thanks,
Karen W
I Love the colors and the bg stamping is too cool, I want to remember that I don’t have to stamp to the ends, I like the distressing on your watercolor, and the corner stitching. I love the buttons and flowers too!
I think it is gorgeous….you should think outside of your box more often if you come up with things like this! All your work is beautiful but I am especially drawn to the shabby chicness of this and the interesting colors…
I love shabby chic in my life, Julie, so this card is PERFECT in my book! You can expand on this idea anytime for me. CHEERS on a great card.
Yep, like it, actually love your colour palette, but the transparency is too bold for my taste. Would have preferred a tone on tone printed vellum. But what do I know? Just a stamper learning new techniques and trying to sort out my style. Your work on the other hand, is absolutely gorgeous, and the designs you show us leave me speechless with envy! Thank you for sharing your incredible talent.
Gorgeous. The colors are beautiful and the shabby collection and layout is awesome. Thanks for another great piece of inspiration!
I love it! ove the colors and the shabby chic/vintage feel. The bottons are a great touch. I’d say it’s perfectly imperfect!
I really like it! I think it’s fun and unique. Inspiring to help other step out of the box.
Nice creation! Llike the shabby chic look and the color combo.
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well Julia I like it…it is different and we need to step out of the box sometimes. I like the shabby chic look anyway, and I love the colors….Stephanie
I think its BEAUTIFUL!
ooohhhhh, I like it Julia! I think it is very retro with the colors and yeah, vintage/shabby. I have the same resolution as you by the way, gotta break out of the safezone once in a while. Love your card!!
It is not bad at all. I love shabby chic, though, and like the idea of using what’s on the desk to build something new. Makes the box bigger…right?!!
Way to go!!
ya know, I think I like it. I am not brave enough to try outside the box yet…..but I do like the shabby chic look. Although shabby is strong….I would say vintage chic - LOL!
I love this card!
I don’t love the transparency- though I do like it okay- but I LOVE the rest of the card!!!!
Not wild about the transparency but the rest is FABOO!
Julia–one of my favorite things about you as a stamper is that you take risks and do different things!!!
Rock on……..and happy new year!
hugs!C
Well, I think your card is awesome and I think your taking a risk paid off.
Happy New Year Julia.
Mary
This is beautiful, Julia! Yes, it is different from a lot of your creations but there is still the balance necessary to make it very pleasing to the eye. The vibrant colors are awesome along with the contrasting brown and the different textures (stitching, transparency, rolled up edges of main image) make this really fun to see! I admire your risk taking abilities! Wishing you a Blessed 2008!
Very pretty, J! Love the scrappiness of it! (I mean that in a good way!!)
Beautiful! I love the colors, button, flower, and well…I love it all!
