Autumn Flourishes

Published by Julia Stainton at 9:00 am under Card Designs, Challenges

I wanted to try out an Autumn themed floral design with my brand-new Flourishes stamp set, Flowers. Today’s sketch challenge seemed like a fun design to try so I pulled out my Basic Grey Mellow 6×6 paper pad for color inspiration. I was delighted to find that one of the papers worked perfectly with the style of the Flourishes flower that I wanted to use. Pulling out my new Copics for the second time, I decided to try them out again. If you’d like to play along with today’s Sketch challenge…check out SCS141.

For the main image of this design, I repeatedly stamps the main flower a few times in my black Palette Hybrid ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock. I then went to work coloring in my design. I’d learned a trick to getting variations of a color from Ellen’s blog last night and wanted to give it a try. To get a darker color blend, take the lighter colored marker and pick up some of the darker color that has been scribbled onto a piece of plastic. Worked like a charm! So I think I did a little better job this time around. I’m hoping I’ll improve a little each time. :) Copic Markers from the 24B set.

As I mentioned above, the main design for this card came from today’s sketch challenge. I tried to stay true to it..I really did! I started off with a 4.25 x 5.5 card base but I made my floral panel a little too large and just couldn’t squeeze it all on…hence, another square card design…my favorite! LOL Even when I try something else…it forces me back!

The background of the card base is stamped in Blue Bayou with another beautiful flower from this set. The sentiment friend is one of many great one word sentiments that are included as well. I punched out the oval with my large SU oval punch and adhered it across the stitched strip with a couple of brads. The beautiful ribbon…I just couldn’t’ resist using it. It is the new May Arts scalloped edge ribbon…stunning! This card is a little different from my usual style. Maybe a little busy? But lots of fun to do! LOL Keep scrolling down so you don’t miss anything! This is my THIRD post of the morning! Now I REALLY have to go get some things done!

And thanks so much to Michele  for helping me figure out how to use these darling smilies! :)
