A Waxing Challenge…
It is Thursday again…how did that happen?! Time for another Way’s to Use it Challenge and this time, pull out your wax! No…we’re not waxing legs, eyebrows or anything in between =) ….pull out your wax and incorporate it into your papercrafting designs! Wrap a candle, try wax resist, crayon resist…anything that involves wax and have some fun. Jump out of your comfort zone and just do it!
Coffee Candle
I’ve been wanting to wrap this candle for the past week and this morning seemed like the perfect time. I just wasn’t groovin the other challenge that I had in mind so when this popped into my head this morning, I thought….Eureka! Hows about a wax challenge?!
And so….that is why the challenge is a wee bit late this morning! If you’d like to play along with the WT124 Wax Challenge, all are VERY welcome. Join in HERE!
Now making this candle was really very easy! I started off buying this candle for myself but…I came home and saw this http://www.lizzieannedesigns.com/ Latte Cup stamp sitting on my desk…I just knew it would be perfect with the coffee-scented candle…yummmm. I think this will be a little gift for a Starbucks friend I have!
The Latte Cup stamp (as well as the Big Paisley I used for the band) is a Simply Singles stamp that you can purchase separately from Lizzie Anne Designs. I just LOVE this new line. Makes it so affordable and the larger size of the stamps, makes them super easy to work with!
To start off the design I was inspired by Jacksonbelle’s DTGD black and brown challenge over the weekend. i said I’d try and and it worked perfectly for this project. Everything you see is black or brown.
Thanks for pushing me out of my comfort zone Linz! Anyway…. to create the band for this candle wrap I used the reverse side of some very pretty My Mind’s Eye Signature Life paper. The Big Paisley is stamped in Chocolate Chip ink and then the edges were sponged with the same. I adhered it on top of some Kraft cardstock with some liquid glue adn quickly wrapped my candle while the glue was still damp so that the layers would curve and not buckle. The edges were then adhered with some Sticky Strip tape to make sure they would not come undone.
Quick Tip: Don’t forget about the reverse side of double-sided patterned paper. It is perfect for stamping on or matting with a perfectly matching color.
For the little tag, I cut out a rectangle of the same patterned paper and angled the corners with my corner tag punch from SU. The matting in chocolate chip was done in the same manner and both layers were sponged on the edges. The coffee cup was stamped in Black and then aquapainted with chocolate chip and creamy caramel. I stamped the sentiment “for my friend” along the side. I just love this Simply Sentiments set from Lizzie Anne Designs. I’ve gotten so much use out of it and the size of the sentiments as well as the style is fabulous. To tie it all together, I used some of my favorite May Arts ribbon….black and cream striped. It goes with sooo many things.
Have a fabulous day! I’d love to see you play along with today’s challenge! Make sure you stop back in tomorrow as I have something special cooked up.
