Canada {C’est Bon}

Happy Canada Day! I always love Canada Day & we always have a wonderful time celebrating at the lake with friends. What could be better than sand, sun, a long weekend and fireworks on the beach to top it all off?!

Here is the definition of Canada Day from Wikipedia…

Canada Day (French: Fête du Canada) is Canada‘s national holiday, marking the establishment of Canada as a Dominion on July 1, 1867. It is a federal holiday celebrated on July 1, annually (see exception below), by all provincial governments and most businesses across the country.

A day off from work, Canada Day is often a time for outdoor activities in the early Canadian summer. It is also Canada’s main patriotic holiday.

Canada Day is often referred to as “Canada’s birthday,” particularly in the popular press. However the first day of July does not commemorate a clear-cut date of “independence” or “founding,” but instead merely commemorates the begining of the establishment of the Canadian confederation through the 1867 British North America Act. The British Parliament still retained several political controls over Canada after 1867, and the country still lacked many of its modern provinces. July 1, 1867 represented the establishment of Canada as a kingdom in its own right,[1] the begining of a new phase of Canadian self-soverignity and democracy, and was the begining of the slow march towards full independence from Britain, attained with the proclamation of the Constitution Act by Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, in 1982.

Canada is the second largest country in the world…in size, definitely NOT in population. 🙂 So much untouched beauty and I haven’t seen nearly as much of it as I would wish. If I had the chance to live anywhere else…I don’t think I’d move. I’m so happy right where I am…LOL Only a few miles from where I was born. 🙂 Canada is a great country and I’m proud to be Canadian. 🙂 Did you check out my Yahoo avatar? LOL I’m all dressed up for Canada Day. LOL Wish I looked that good!

God keep our land….Glorious and Free! (from our national anthem, Oh Canada)
