At Peace…
(image downloaded from internet)
Yesterday , my mom passed away peacefully at 2:10 in the afternoon. I was able to be there, holding her hand. My mom had been diagnosed back in May 2005 with melanoma and fought a valiant battle. I’m so glad that her suffering is now over and she is at home with the Lord.
My mom was also my best friend and I just can’t find the words to express how much she will be missed. Mom was so many things…generous, kind, loving, courageous, smart, witty… the central part in our family, a wonderful mother and grandmother. Mom was always there. I was thinking the other day of the Proverbs 31 woman and how much my mom exemplified that.
Thank so much for all your thoughts and prayers. Some of you have known of my mom’s illness for almost two years and have sent cards to her as well. She found a lot of joy & strength receiving them. We have been so blessed with so many people praying for her and our family.
I will sing of Your mercy
that leads me through valleys of sorrow
to rivers of joywhen death, like a gypsy
comes to steal what I love
I will still look to the heavens
I will still seek your face(Jars of Clay)

Dear Julia, I just read your beautiful post of your mother’s passing. I’m embarrassed to say that, being computer-challenged, I’ve only recently discovered the “blog world”, & yours was the first site that I dared to click “free mail notification”. I love your creativity, I love your love for family and your expressions of faith, I love the simplicity with which you instruct…Life can be so difficult at times. I’m so sorry for your loss. And that Jars of Clay song is one of my fav’s. Please know you are truly in my prayers. Sending hugs for you…
I am sorry for your loss. I know you will miss your Mom and my prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
Julia your family is in my prayers. You were blessed, and now your children are blessed with a great Mom…what a gift. God Bless you and your family. Rebecca
My condolences. Although we do not know each other, I feel confident when I say that you and your mom were lucky to have each other. You do her proud by being the kind of mother she was to you.

I’m so sorry Julia. Sounds like you had a wonderful relationship with your Mom, so you’ll have lots of sweet memories! I pray you will have that “peace that passes all understanding” as you go through the next week, month & year. It is a tough time, but it will get better (I know from the same experience - my Mom died of pancreatic cancer). {{Hugs}}

Just seeing your opening image made me cry.
I too have followed your mothers progress over the last few months.
I will light a special Luminary, in honor of your mother,
at our area’s Relay for Life this weekend on the 23rd.
I am including your mother, my daughter Alexa who is fighting Leukemia, my friend who lost her husband Rodney, another friend who lost her uncle Bill.
I am donating my time to do a project with all the attendee’s. It raises money for research and is done to honor those fighting cancer, those who beat it, and the many who lost their battle.
I will also include a donation in her memory as well.
Your family is in our prayers.

What a beautiful tribute to your mom! It is pure joy for her now that she is in the presence of God…but great loss and grief for you and your family. May God comfort you in the hours and days to come…and give you peace. When I lost my dad, our pastor shared this passage with me.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)
May it be a comfort to you…
I am so sorry for your loss. It sound like you and your mom had a wonderful relationship. You and your family are in my thoughts.
Julia, please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your Mom. While you will miss her terribly, please draw on your faith that you will be together again one day.
I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. I have always found comfort in this verse when going through a sorrow. May it help you find a bit of comfort and peace over the next few weeks.
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Rev. 21:4
You and your family are in my prayers.
{many hugs}

I am so sorry to hear of your loss Julia. My thoughts and prayers are with you today and in the difficult days ahead. It is so difficult to lose a parent. I lost my father when I was 11 and even though many years have past, I still miss him. You were fortunate to be able to be there with her to hold her hand. Be comforted in knowing that she is no longer suffering and she’ll be there to watch over you and your family.
Julia, your Mom sounds very special, how wondeful that you could be there for her in her last moments. –I lost my Mother-in-law to cancer 10 years ago and was able to be with her at the end. It is very healing to know she is no longer suffering and is with the Lord. God Bless you in this hard time, and it does get a little easier with time. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of my MIL and wonder what would she say or think.
Julia, I’m very sorry to hear of your loss. How wonderful for your mother to be in glory with the Lord now! At times like this, I always think of the Fanny Crosby hymn, My Savior First of All (http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/m/y/mysavior.htm). May God give you peace as you go through this difficult time with your family. Our prayers are with you!

Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day.

The LORD is wonderfully good to those who wait for him and seek him.”

So sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. Just keep her close to you in your heart.
Julia. My thoughts and prayers are with you. My Dad died in 1993 of Melanoma. Reading your touching tribute to your Mom brought so much of that time rushing back. I still miss him as I know you will miss your Mom. Knowing that they are in a better place and no longer in pain helps.
I am so sad for your loss. I am sure that she is going to be missed greatly by you and your family, at the same time she is in a better place with no pain.
I understand what you are going through, because I’ve experienced the loss of someone very dear in my life, too. And even though every person has to get through a time like this in their own way, I know you will come through. Someday, the pain will ease, and the memories will bring comfort. You touched so many with the tribute you paid to your blessed mother in today’s message as well as sharing the pics of her beautiful garden last week. With Kindest Thoughts and Deepest Sympathy. Your family will be help in prayer by many who love you and cherish your creativity.
I will lift you and your family up in prayer as you go through this very difficult and emotional time. I know you miss her already but it’s also wonderful to know that your mom is not suffering anymore. God speed and HUGE HUGS of COMFORT.
I’m sorry for your loss Julia! We lost my husband’s father, age 66, on 11/16/06 and the hurt is still so strong. I know he’s in Heaven having a wonderful time…but the year of “firsts” is so difficult - first Thanksgiving, first Christmas, first Father’s Day, etc. without him has been hard. I’ll be praying for each and every one of you. I’m thankful she’s joining Jesus at the dinner table!
Always makes me smile to think of that!
I am so sorry for your loss. Mothers are a girls best friend and they remain with us for the rest of out life even though they have gone. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers
Julia,

Dear Julia,
I am so sorry for your loss. I am thinking of you and your family as you go through this difficult time.
I recently finished reading “The Five People you Meet in Heaven” and this paragraph really hit home:
“Lost love is still love Eddie. It takes a different form, that’s all. You can’t see their smile or bring them food or tousle their hair or move them around a dance floor. But when those senses weaken, another heightens. Memory. Memory becomes your partner. You nurture it. You hold it. You dance with it.”
“Life has to end,” she said. “Love doesn’t.”
Take care,
Danielle
Julia, I know we have never met, but I always enjoy reading your blog. I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. While I’m thankful you’ve had time to prepare for this moment, I know it is a difficult time. May you have many wonderful memories of her to treasure, and may her spirit rest in peace.

Oh, love, I am so very sorry for your loss. No one loves you like your Mom and it’s such a huge void when she’s gone. I’m thinking about you and your family. Linda
Julia, my heartfelt sympathies on the passing of your Mother. There is no greater loss to be suffered than losing your Mother. I know your faith will take your through this and that you know that she now has Peace in the arms of Our Lord. ~ Barb
Julia,
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I know that this is a difficult time for you, but your faith and family and friends will help you through these times. Losing a loved one is never easy, but we must always be positive and know that God has a plan for each and every one of us.
My grandmother passed away recently after a brave battle with cancer. I took a lot of peace from this poem:
God looked around his garden,
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth,
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you,
And lifted you to rest;
God’s garden must be beautiful-He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain;
He knew you would never get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And hills were hard to climb
So he closed your weary eyelids, and whispered,
“Peace be thine.”
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn’t go alone,
For a part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

God bless,

Julia,
I will keep you in my prayers … rest in shelter of His wings.

Love to you and your family….
I have remembered you since I found out your mother was transitioning during the last few months and thought how about year plus months we faced this homegoing. This was a scripture that we had on her thank you cards and thought it might bring you some comfort. Your lovely spirit comes thru on your blog and that is why I always come here. I am one of those people who have the fantasies about projects along with supplies but freeze when the time comes to perform but God is helping me thru this challenge.
…”Arise, my darling, my beautiful
one, and come with me.
See! The winter is past; the rains
are over and gone.
SOS 2:10-11

Dear Julia, I am so sorry about the loss of your mom. I, too, lost my mom to cancer about 5 1/2 years ago. It is devastating and there are days that you just feel lost. All I can say is trust in the Lord. He will carry you through this time and the days to come. I will be praying that you will find comfort and peace in Him.
Julia - So sorry for your loss. I’ve been following your Mom’s struggle and I just want you to know your family is in my thoughts. {{{HUGS}}}
Julia, I am sorry for your loss — I have never had a close relationship with my mom — I am sure you will miss her terribly. I too believe she is home.
Dear Julia,
My deepest sympathies are with you and your family at this difficult time. I can only imagine you feel like an orphan now, but as you said she is with the Lord. I bet she is wearing the brightest crown He made for her out of all of her sorrows & tribulations.
Kindest Regards,
Gina
Julia, deepest sympathy to you. It is so hard when you loose someone so close. Remember all the good memories. Praying for strength for you and your family
I am so sorry for your loss. Sending you hugs and prayers.
My most sincere sympathy goes to you and your family. Please try to find comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering and is at peace. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
I don’t know you at all, but we’re sisters…Sisters in the Lord. Therefore, your joy is my joy and your grief is my grief. Praise the Lord that she is no longer suffering but now rejoicing with her Savior, and praise God that you will see her again some day. I’m sure this is a bittersweet time for you. Your family will be in my prayers.
Huge (((hugs))) and Prayers.
So sorry for your loss.
Oh Julia…I know you must miss her and would love for her to be back by your side…but, even if that were possilbe…she is now with our Lord in heaven…there is no way she would want to return to this earth, I’m sure. She is now standing in His presence, in the warmth of His loving hands, and I always believe, our loved ones look down from above…see where we are and what is going on in our daily lives, and still pray to the Lord….asking Him to guide us and comfort us, and lead us in His path, til we all meet again with Him in Glory. I pray your heart will be comforted and that you and your family will know our God is there with you as you go through this grieving time in your life. And, you have the assurance of seeing your mother again, because of your faith and trust in the Lord and in His gift of salvation. The steadfast love of the Lord will never leave you! Remain faithful and trust Him when your heart is hurting. Big, warm, hugs, Barb g

Hi, it’s Snoskred here. I’ve recently become a blogging chick and have set myself a challenge to comment on as many Blogging Chick blogs as I can. So that’s why I’m here, though it looks like I’ve got here at a not so pleasant time for you.
I live in Australia, and we lost one of our big cats at the zoo to Melanoma once. It shocked the heck out of me - the cat was 23, and had been living under the same sun I had for all that time. So now it reminds me to wear sunscreen, and take care in the sun, always wear hats and sunglasses, and take the time to get checked out every year for skin cancers . We have one of the highest rates of Melanoma in the world in this country.
And when people get sunburnt and laugh about it like it’s funny, that really upsets me. It’s not funny. It’s risking your life. Be an adult, and wear sunscreen, and re-apply it every two hours. It’s not difficult.
I’m so sorry for your loss.

Julia,
My deepest condolences go out to you and your family. I, too, have been where you are and it was one of the hardest thing I have ever had to do, keep your faith and know that she is in a better place.
I too wanted to wish you the best during this difficult time. I will keep you in my prayers. I know our Lord is watching over you and your family.
Beautiful picture and tribute to your mom. MY condolences to you and your family. {{{HUGS}}}

There are not great words of comfort right now. You have a void in your heart that is as big as the Grand Canyon. Take comfort knowing your mother is walking on streets of gold!!! I just found out about your mother and although we’ve never met, I feel I know you and I wanted you to know you are in my heart, thoughts and prayers. Know your mother is home and you will see her again! God Bless you and your family as you go through these difficult times.
Julia- I have been out-of-town and am catching up on my blogs. I just read your most beautiful and eloquent and brave account of your mother’s passing. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Just read your post and wanted to say I am so sorry for your loss. You will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. ((((HUGS))))
Julia,
I’m so sorry that you are grieving the loss of your mother. However, I am sure you are joyful to know that she is in HEAVEN
and that you will see her again! I am pretty sure that the hope of Heaven is why the Bible says that we do not grieve as the world grieves. Hugs and prayers to you and your family during this time.
Girlfriend, I just read about your mom’s passing into Glory. For a minute there, I thought you were talking about mine…sounds like something I could have written about Ruth Henderson, who went to Heaven in February 2005. Honey, when your momma dies, there is a void in your heart that nothing can fill. You only have the comfort of knowing she is with Jesus and the Saints and you will join her later. Julia, I know just how you’re feeling right now. Just remember that Jesus said He has overcome the world.
Julia, I was just reading your blog and found this sad loss of your mom that you have suffered. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I’m amazed at how well you are carrying on , and still posting challenges on SCS.
I lost my dad, aged 65, on April 11 of this year. He too passed of cancer - lymphoma. Like your mom ,I am sure, he too fought a long hard battle since the fall of 2004. It was so hard to watch.
I still can’t quite believe it can be he’s not with us.
Your loss is that much fresher. Take care of yourself, my SCS friend.
love and prayers to you and your family
Deborah
