Going Yo Yo….

Well, I must admit this challenge was more difficult than I thought! Yo Yo Yellow that is. When Trudee suggested a Yo Yo Yellow Ways to Use It Challenge, I thought, “Great! That color rarely gets used and it should be an easy one to whip up.” Famous last words! LOL Yo Yo Yellow and I just DO NOT get along! I knew there must be a reason I never use that color! Five tries later, along with a lot of frustration…here it is. 🙂

If  you’d like to join us at the Way’s to Use it Challenge…we’d love that! Here is the link… WT114 Going Yo Yo.

I won’t tell you any more about all the discards on my desk and my long journey to this card, I’ll just start with how to make this one. This card started off with the 5″ square kraft cardstock base. Onto that I layered two papers from my 8×8 paper pack Chasing Butterflies from Daisy D’s. I just love this paper! Great size and great variety of papers. I bought mine from Jacksonbelle.  I then used zig zag stitching on some of the seams for interest.

Quick Tip: If you are trying to use a color that you are having difficulty using, use it in small doses. You can also sponge it or stamp a background on it. This may change the hue or tint enough to make it more manageable.

For the main image, I inked up my Happy Harmony flowers from Stampin Up with my Yo Yo Yellow & Old Olive markers. I stamped it three times without reinking to get a layered effect. This is called repetition stamping. After stamping the sentiment in Basic Black across the stems, I lightly sponged the edges with Close To Cocoa ink. It still needed a little something so I dug through my drawer and found this punch. I love this punch but always seem to forget to use it. The image was then matted with the dotted red paper and then a square of Yo Yo Yellow. I lightly sponged the edges of the yellow to tone it down a little.

For the final touches, I added a little Antique Brass Hodgepodge Hardware clip and a yellow Prima flower from the Martinique Collection. I bought them at my local scrapbook store and it is one of my favorite Prima boxes. I think I’ve gone through 4 boxes so far! LOL At the center of my flower is a one of my favorite new product finds, a red corduroy covered brad.

All in all, I’m finally reasonably happy with this card. Why I have so much trouble using Yo Yo Yellow I am still not sure. I did pick out a pot of these beautiful Yo Yo Yellow Daisies at the garden centre on Monday for beside my kitchen door. I seem to prefer using So Saffron as a yellow but I do love lemon yellow. Perhaps if the Yo Yo Yellow cardstock was just a tad more on the lemon side, I’d be happy!
