Been Missing You

So life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.

Since my last post, so much has happened in my life. And so little if I get right down to it.

I started a new blog.

Had an accident.

Started physio therapy.

Wow. Lots of things I never planned.  And the things I did plan, getting my new blog in tip top shape, making some lovely new blog graphics, enjoying fall by taking long walks and playing with my kids, having lots of time to craft…well, they didn’t quite work out the way I expected.

But whatever. Life is messy. So come visit me on my new blog juliastainton.com It’s not finished but that’s OK. I’m slowly trying to get back on track.

Things to note:

  • If you’d like to keep up with my creations, follow me or subscribe to my feed on my new blog…I’d love to have you join me!
  • All my posts will remain here on this blog for future reference for the time being.
  • All my posts have also been imported into my new blog so you can easily find them there as well.
  • I have a few posts that are new on juliastainton.com so make sure you scroll down
  • I’ll pop back in here once or twice more to remind you where I’m at.

Card Details… It’s just a sweet hodge podge of goodies. Kind of like friendship. Who knows why some things and friends just work together, but they do. There’s Coredinations sanded cardstock, Jenni Bowlin flair, Studio Calico die cuts, Maya Road tickets, pins and bingo motif and a big beautiful Prima flower. Click on the card to enlarge it for more detail.

Finally, thanks so much for staying with me all these years! I’ve been blogging here since February 2007 and it’s been an amazing adventure.

XO

Mica Flakes & Maya Road

Life is always a creative adventure and in my projects, I always love trying out new products. Mica flakes are not technically a new product BUT…they ARE new to me.

I was sent the Frantage Mica Kit for a swap between the Maya Road and Stampendous DT’s. If you’re not familiar with mica, it’s actually a mineral that is formed in very thin sheets. As this material has a beautiful metallic or pearlescent sheen, is very thin and easy to use, it makes a beautiful addition to mixed media or vintage style crafting projects.

In my card design I’ve used it to cover the lovely chipboard frame and add texture and reflective qualities to it. The gold colored mica along with some of the lighter pearl color (my favorite) is adhered to the patterned paper covered heart.

Design Notes:

  • Mica flakes are easily adhered with a liquid adhesive…Glossy Accents is my personal fave
  • Large mica flakes can be broken into smaller sizes for finer texture
  • Frame is first colored with a Silver Krylon pen before adhering flakes
  • Mica can be trimmed to fit the edges of the chipboard once adhesive is dry.
  • I found the mica looks best tone on tone for a subtle look

Throughout the week, Stampendous and Maya Road have teamed up for an inspirational blog swap. You can find the above project along with another I created, here on the Maya Road Blog.

Be sure to check out this post for an awesome Maya Road giveaway and I know you’ll find another great giveaway on the Stampendous blog as well.

Happy creating!

Edited to add: The heart chipboard is from the Shot Through the Heart Chipboard Set

a summer shower card

Summer time always seems to be a bit of a blur. Whoever it was that called them the lazy days of summer definitely did not have my life.

I always get very sentimental on Labour Day weekend each year. I can’t quite put it into words but I’m full of very mixed feelings. Perhaps part of it is that I seem to count the years passing in summer that has passed.

This summer will be remembered by myself as the summer of weddings and accompanying events.

This sweet little card was created for a shower I hosted a few weeks back. It matched a sweet little heart banner that I stitched up for the occasion.

I wrote about it and if you missed the post, you can find it here.

I created a little pennant accent by notching the bottom of a strip of coordinating patterned paper and adding some pretty embellishments.

Happy creating!
